We are not just looking for Trainee Solicitors, but future Solicitors and Partners. Therefore, we look to retain our Trainee Solicitors, including those following the SQE route, upon qualification where possible.
We provide our Trainee Solicitors with a varied and hands-on training in a supportive environment, ensuring that their legal knowledge, confidence and skills develop as they complete each of their seats.
Each Trainee is assigned to a specific partner who is responsible for their supervision and acts as their mentor.
The Training Contract is usually split into separate seats of approximately 6 to 12 months in a mix of the following teams:
- Commercial Litigation
- Corporate/Commercial
- Commercial Property (including licensing)
- Property litigation
- Residential Property
In addition to the practical experience gained in each seat, our Trainee Solicitors will sit the external Professional Skills Courses (PSC) to meet the requirements of the SRA for trainee solicitors; and also attend internal and external training.
Process
It is our policy to recruit suitable candidates as paralegals before deciding whether or not to invite that individual to apply for a position as a Trainee Solicitor. Our selection process is robust, and includes detailed written assessments, interviews, and a role play.
A paralegal will usually be expected to work for a minimum of 6 months before they are considered as a suitable candidate. If you are offered a position as a paralegal there is no guarantee that you will be offered a Training Contract.
We recruit a number of Trainee Solicitors per year dependent on our capacity for training and the needs of the business. The appointment process generally commences in June each year for training to commence the following January.
We will also consider candidates wishing to follow the SQE route, supporting those successful through the SQE2 process with guaranteed qualifying work experience, study leave for exams and support for the exams themselves. Candidates who wish to follow this route will follow the same application process as those seeking as Training Contract.
Who should apply?
We welcome applications from candidates who have gained a 2:1, or higher, degree classification and who have completed their vocational training.
Please apply by sending a cover letter, explaining why you want to work for DKLM, and by e-mail to a.robertson@dklm.co.uk
